The band is back, and ready to set the world on fire with album number five - ‘The Ignitor’ - which sets new standards for the band, combining all the best elements of its predecessors and throwing them into Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Heaven!

I am not sure how these guys escaped my metal ears for so long, but I am totally impressed with this release. Great metal riffs, blistering leads, pounding drums, harmonies and hooks that come through the beautiful production - there is just so much to enjoy here. Musically, they have that power metal feel for sure, but I feel like they lean a bit towards a straight-forward metal feel more than most power metal outfits I am familiar with. I believe this is due to a combination of the overall guitar tone along with the slight grit found in the vocals, which reminds me at times of  Eric Adams of Manowar. Whatever it is, it is like a breath of fresh air in all of the cookie cutter power metal that seems to get released these days.

The history of Burning Point starts with their founding in the Fall of 1999 in Oulu, Finland. After the recordings of only one promotional CD, the band managed to get a record deal with a well-known German based metal label, Limb Music (LMP), who released the albums ‘Salvation By Fire’ (2001) and ‘Feeding The Flames’ (2003). Live slots on some big festivals such as Tuska Metal Festival and Sweden Rock followed.

In 2004 they entered the studio to record the single ‘To Hell And Back’, which was released only in Finland and Sweden by Poison Arrow Records, but the following year, after the release of another promotional CD, they were brought to the attention of Metal Heaven in Germany. ‘Burned Down The Enemy’ (2007) came as a result of this new collaboration, marking the end of an era but also the beginning of something new. The band played extensively after the release of the album, including an appearance at Romania's Maximum Rock Festival.

In the spring of 2008, Burning Point started the recordings of a new album, ‘Empyre’ at HelGate studios. ‘Empyre’ was described as a "back to the roots" album, containing a strong “Eighties vibe” and lots of special guests on its limited edition version.

But now the time has come for this brand new Burning Point album, ‘The Ignitor’, which was released in June 2012 on Scarlet Records. No other title could be more appropriate, since this album truly ignites all the elements that Burning Point are about. The band have come a long way round musically and you can really hear the experience in their music. ‘The Ignitor’ takes all the good things from its predecessors, throwing them into a whirlwind of Heavy Metal and from the eye of the storm rises what can be easily considered the Finns’ masterpiece.

‘The Ignitor’ was recorded at HelGate and Reindeer Horns Studios and mastered at Tico Tico Studios (Sonata Arctica, Sentenced) by Ahti Kortelainen. The beautiful cover artwork, which was what first caught my attention, was handled by Felipe Machado Franco (Blind Guardian, Rhapsody Of Fire, Iron Savior).
